Day 16: #OctPoWriMo
Prompt : Losing your fears and tears
The protagonist in my poem has a heart of gold but is outspoken and doesn’t hesitate from calling a spade a spade. She is also quite impatient and is unable to hold onto relationships for long, but she is scared of loneliness. The very thought of returning to an empty house suffocates her .The silent rooms mock at her loneliness . Yes, she breaks down in tears at the very thought of living alone all these years!
Tried to follow the story-line based concept even today where till the end the fear remains.
“Oh! When will you learn to be polite,
Not call “a spade a spade”, and disrespect!”
Echoed the oh so familiar voice !
Against the rooms resplendent with her fond memories!
“But, I just told the truth,” blurted the innocent curly haired rebel!
Yes, form her early childhood, she wore her attitude on her sleeve!
Those memories became all the more vivid
In these quiet mammoth –like cages
Built of cement, bricks, mortar and concrete!
She was even scared to breathe
Lest she disturbed the looming silence enveloping the grim palace!
It has been a long journey…..alone for her mostly
Relationships came and went like the varying monsoons
Some dark, some cloudy but dotted with rainbows intermittently
But….all gone now, an integral part of History!
Things could have been different, though!
Had she been less of a rebel and more a common girl,
But No!
She ached to re-live those wonderful bygone days
Surrounded with laughter, chatter instead of this foreboding calmness,
It was scary! Those silhouettes housed something sinister!
Danger from the darkness lurked at every corner !
She longed for companionship at this juncture
When the sun had set leaving behind the misty dusk
When the cognizance of the vivacious day lay etched
In the memory of each rock, boulder and atom of clay!
When the breeze whispered with the leaves of the trees in the darkness
Somewhere in the old palace, she is still awake!
Unable to sleep out of fear
Of loneliness!
