Cascading Beauty

Day 11 #OctPoWriMo

Prompt: Move your body, Move your words

Combined the poetry form " Cascade" with this prompt since I have always been fascinated by the power and beauty of waterfalls.

My take on the prompt :

The rhythm of water cascading down
From the mountain top majestic
The music weaving magic permeating the surrounding

Each droplet waltzing around with splendid grace
Elated and merry they shimmer wearing joyous crowns
The rhythm of water cascading down

Spellbound , I watch in amazement
This glorious spectacle flowing down
From the mountain top majestic

I feel high- spirited , isolated from agonizing restlessness
Divine peace fills my soul while I dance hand in hand with my Muse and
The music weaving magic permeating the surrounding!

Dreams Fulfilled

Day 10 : #OctPoWriMo

Prompt: Power and Control

I would like to emphasize on "empower" today through an old composition of mine which talks about the power of education. This is inspired from a real life person who is very close to my heart and I respect her loads for the beautiful work that she does. She spreads not only knowledge but also love and her warmth is certainly infectious. Kudos to her efforts!

The vibrant rainbow,
Gave birth to hope,
In the sparkling eyes,
That dotted the innocent faces,
Laced with dirt,
The gates of wonderland opened,
For the ones deprived,
Of the basic requirement- education.
Yes, books infused them
With energy, creativity,
Their little minds wandered,
Among the pages,
Filled with wonder.
They dreamed-
Of a better life
Cushioned with the knowledge- acquired.
Her endeavor finally yielded results
She felt elated, complete
Like never before- satisfaction inundated.
Happiness knew no bounds,
When her students touched her feet,
Those whom she had taught,
Free of cost,
Yes, today they have achieved success,
Settled in their lives.
Education empowered their minds,
Brought them from darkness to light,
Their achievement is her victory,
She did not earn loads of money,
But respect….tons ,
Today, at the dusk of her life,
A lingering smile adorns her wrinkled face,
Yes, dreams have been fulfilled,
She has done it!

The Mist

Day 9: #OctPoWriMo
Prompt: Tapping into your creative mind

The prompt today is unusual as well as creates opportunity for delving into mystery which I relate with smoke, mist, fog.

My take on today's prompt:

Life swayed like an empty cocoon
Floating like a dry twig in the breeze
Listless, directionless without any purpose
Memories choking with emotions of the days spent
It seemed not long in the past, but lost in the album hence
Only to be seen, loved, grieved, touched, pages turned with a sigh!
Thus days were spent cuddled in the cognizance of her beautiful presence
The fragrance of the ocean drifted in from the pastel colored window one lonely evening
Beckoning me to join the tete-e-tete with the crimson cloaked dusky sea-shore endearing
My feet developed a mind of their own and trotted out of the door into the sprawling lawn
Soon I was marching ahead towards an unknown destination that called
Didn’t realize when the mist had descended enveloping the environ
Brushing everything into pristine white with a touch of mystery
Suddenly could smell something very close to my heart!
That known fragrance of smoke from the hut!
When she cooked my favorite delicacy
Served with warmth and love
Then the enduring silence
Cold! I felt cold!
Suffocated!
Lifeless!
Sigh!

My love for poetry

#OctPoWriMo: Day 8

Prompt : How could I know it?

Today's prompt has left me thinking hard about when and  how did I start on this journey of loving poetry and finally mustering courage to write as well. While I delved deep into the album of memories, soon I stumbled upon the answer . It was always lying there, waiting to be discovered, yet how could I have missed it?

It was a sunny morn with the chill still in the environ
As I gazed at the clear sky, the cottony clouds winked by
They were speaking to me all along
Yet I missed understanding the conversation
I slept with eyes wide open

I could feel the life all around me awakened
Yet, had it not been her
How could I have known it?

Her.....the girl living within me
All along, inquisitive, sensitive, alive with emotion
I felt suffocated at times.....
Was is because she wanted to be freed
But I denied?

I could feel the life all around me awakened
Yet, had it not been her
How could I have known it?

I felt the breeze kiss my cheeks
I allowed it to play with my tress
The water at the sea side told me stories
Of sailors, ships travelling far and wide
Yet, I could not understand the urge.....was it to write?

I could feel the life all around me awakened
Yet, had it not been her
How could I have known it?

I could sense the life glowing through the dew drop
As the sun rays dazzled at it
I could hear the butterflies sing
As they sprinkled colors on the daffodils
My emotions stifled me sometimes leaving me quizzed!

I could feel the life all around me awakened
Yet, had it not been her
How could I have known it?

Finally the day came
When I transformed my feelings
Into black and white!
Freedom at last
Was overjoyed at this experience
She was released from imprisonment!

And I....I realized
My love for nature, for everything around me
Transformed into this eternal love for Poetry
I felt alive....once again
She gave a new purpose to exist
To shine somewhere in life's constellation!

I could feel the life all around me awakened
Yet, had it not been her
How could I have known it?

In quest of the unknown

Day 7: #OctPoWriMo
Prompt : And then I went too far

Had penned down a short story in the recent past rotating around mystery and thrill. Lets see if can imbibe that concept with this prompt today.......

It's raining almost every day now, so unable to think of anything else  but the rain and the sense of mystery that comes with it when one is unable to see the other side through the thick sleet of rainfall.

Glued to the favorite spot on the chair near the fireplace
Cozy, comfortable in the company of warmth and silence
Occasionally broke from the reverie by the knock of rain on the window pane
Lost track of time, morning and night
It has been raining continuously since a fortnight

Knock- Knock ! a sound heard distinctly from outside
Was it the wind playing pranks with her imagination gone wild?
Or was it for real......from a stranger belonging to another world?
A world so different from her own, her solitude
Her home set on the hill so far away from the confusion of city life

The call was from the mysterious world outside that aroused curiosity
S-L-O-W-L-Y she tiptoed towards the french window
Mustered courage to open the latch
The curtain stood still as if warning her against it
But inquisitiveness won the war between head and instinct

She opened the latch only to be greeted by the howling wind
The pitch darkness outside revealed nothing
There was mystery beyond the thick sleet of rain falling
It had a magnetic pull that tugged strongly at her heart
She stepped out into the unknown blackness

In quest of the strange puzzle that stood lurking at some corner
She went too far without realizing the danger
The cliff was steep and slippery
Her nerves scared and jittery
She went on and on into the rain soaked night

In search of the secret unsolved , unexplained!

Next morning the sky stopped pouring
A wonderful rainbow adorned it now
But her room wore a desolate look
The coffee cup left untouched
The breeze ruffled the pages of the unread book

It lay still , open on the table
In front of the dying fireplace!

Rhythm of the Rain

Day 6 #OctPoWriMo
Prompt : While I was pacing the floor

Well, I would like to take the prompt a little further to dancing in the tune of rain. I love to  do that and had composed a poem in the past , but today would write afresh with the old thoughts still lingering on my mind.

Hope you like it :

The usually silent window sill became lively today,
With the clouds gurgling and the distant thunder rumbling,
Soon the environ became abuzz with the arrival of rain

As the "Touch-me-not" danced in rhythm
And the rose petals flourished into blossom
The jasmines broke into a lovely ballet
Even the cactus ,standing tall, swayed in delight!
When the exuberant rain drops swirled and twirled them around!

The air was fragrant with their joy and merriment
I could smell the happiness in the environment!

My fingers drummed in unison
Danced to an unknown yet delightful rendition!
Transporting me to  a different dimension
I was soaring in the limitless sky
Free of all worries and constraints
Soon my body and soul engulfed in this heavenly mold
Swayed and skipped along
Round and round, up and down
I did not dance alone
For my companion- the rain drops
Were by my side
And, I forgot that I was getting desperately blind!

The rain stopped hence, but the magic didn't
The rhythm of the rain remained alive well into the night!

Finally I understand.......

It's Day 5 : #OctPoWriMo
Prompt : Finally I understand......

It's so true that as a child I have heard that one day when I grow up and be in the  shoes of my parents , I will understand and realize so many things. As a child I have always been inquisitive and wanted to know about everything under the Sun.
Today, I have found answers to some of those queries but the quest is on  .

My take on today's prompt :

Finally I understand.......
The transcendence from ignorance to experience

The pride engulfing those eyes when I took my first stride
The wide grin on seeing me run to their welcoming embrace
The happiness on their faces when I graduated from college

Finally I understand.......
The transcendence from ignorance to experience

Stories of sacrifice etched in each line beautifying age
The concern for my well-being echoing in the trembling voice
The unique combination of joy and sadness when I embarked on my journey ahead
So much to be said.....shared as I stand on the threshold of yet another life- stage

Finally I understand.......
The transcendence from ignorance to experience

Oh! What is that I hear?.... Is it my imagination or for real?
Is this how , many years ago, someone else must have felt also?

A constant fear knocking at the closed doors of conscience
Will I be able to do justice like my parents?
Will I graduate this examination of life with flying colors?
Like my parents?
Will I be remembered fondly by someone else as I do for my parents?
Oh! The emotion is so special yet different!
I am scared , yet elated!

Finally I understand the beauty
Of this transcendence from ignorance to experience !
