The Night

The night crawled in,
Hooded, tiptoed,
Crimson colored sky,bade goodbye,
Surrendering to the wheel of time,
Spinning yards of tales,
Untold,in the darkness of hell,
A laughter,a tear,
Love, betrayal,
Friendship, hatred,
Dotted here and there,
Numerous events,
Beaded into the same string,
By the thread called - Spell , omnipresent never ending!

Another Chapter in the Diary of Life

The journey had just begun
Daylight was the only companion
Treading across the serpentine road
Garlanding the mountain terrain
The weather made a sudden turn
Fog enveloped the environ
Cloaking everything in a mysterious cape
Hinting at imminent danger ahead
Visibility died an early death
Leaving a trail of obliviousness
Felt a chill run down the spine
As an owl hooted at a distant pine
The coldness grew with each passing step,
Could feel the icy grip of the breeze
Fossilizing   the senses,
Tried to speed up, but in vain
My tired feet stopped listening to my brain,
A swerving curve lay ahead
Limitless darkness stretched unabated
The silence was unbearable,
Eerie, formidable,
Skipped a beat, my heart,
When a pair of gleaming yellow eyes
Emerged from the misty cavern,
‘Twas the headlight of the missed bus!
Now sitting in the comfort of the Tavern,
A little overwhelmed at  the recent events,
But , said the mind,
Somewhere down the line
Will recollect with a smile
And fill the pages of the diary of life
Enlisting this as another memorable experience!

Confluence

Rough, stoic, cruel,
Stands solitary,
Weather beaten, still unparalleled,
A mystery- that man,
Difficult to understand,
Like a rock,
Standing tall- ages and ages hence,
Withstanding numerous storms,
Brought forth by hell,
Unbroken , determined to excel,
A stern face, lined with experience,
Steel grey eyes,
That spoke a million emotions,
In silence,
A sudden beam of sunlight!
The bundle of delight- his grandchild,
Infused spirit in the stony fort,
Like tiny flowers blossoming,
In the background of moss covered mount,
Laughter echoed far and wide,
The deep voice mingled with jubilant giggles,
The stooping silhouette,
Merged with the little frame,
Hand in hand they walked,
Lost in time,
Slowly vanished from sight,
Becoming one with the misty night!

The pregnant pause

The wooden bench,
Sitting pretty in the same park,
Shaded by the same tree,
Autumn leaves lay all around
Some floating in the gentle breeze
Evoking memories, so sweet, so profound,
The sun rays sparkling like gold trinkets,
The breeze humming a tune,
Melodious like she used to sing,
It’s been a decade,
My feelings are fluttering all over the place,
Like butterflies lost in a maze,
Footsteps forced me to gaze,
She cascaded towards me,
Like a goddess answering the prayers
Left me speechless in wonder,
Suddenly the environment burst with laughter,
Crystal clear, like the maiden river,
I followed the music
Looked behind her
To find her lookalike
Her childhood- revisited
Her daughter, her pride!
Everything around us
Lay dreadfully quiet,
Like death pondering on what to do next?
The only cause
That lingered around
Was the pregnant pause!

Aspiration- An acrostic

Aiming for excellence
Settling only for the best
Putting in all the effort
Inching towards the desired destination
Roaring with energy for the journey
Acquiring knowledge on the way
Tuning in for the change
Inclined towards perfection
Oscillating towards a brighter latitude
Never give up, is the attitude.

Restless!

So much to do
So much too
Myriad thoughts come and go
Frequent the mind’s shore
But never stay for a second more
Leaving the confused matter
To grope to and fro
Waiting for the tide
To wash all doubts aside
Gushing in with ideas bright
Removing the fog with sunny light
Restless is the heart
Restless is the soul
For the  luminescence
To pervade this eclipse!

Memoirs......

As I sit by the window on this hot summer afternoon, I take the privilege of journeying down the memory lane into the boulevard of my childhood. The hustle bustle of the doctors and nurses around me didn’t matter at all as I sunk into the whirlpool of memories. The array of bouquets reminded me of the lovely garden we had at my mama’s place.  Summer vacation meant a visit to Mama’s place, my maternal uncle’s home. We had a lavish widespread garden accentuated with innumerable trees and bushes. All carefully planted and looked after by my grandfather. Summer afternoons were the noisiest part of the day when the cacophony of our gang of cousins almost brought the roof down ! I remember one such instance when we were playing near a well in our garden and the ball went spiraling down into it . Immediately , I , the bravest of all volunteered to bring it up with the help of the pail used to fetch water from within the well. While trying to ensure that the floating ball fitted into the bucket, I bent a little too much and almost toppled over ! My feet were almost dangling in the air while desperately I tried to maneuver the ball , ( which by the way was playing truant and kept irritating me by constantly floating away into all other directions except into the bucket! ) Suddenly I felt a pair of hands grasping me tightly around my hip and pulling me back quickly. I still remember the ashen face of my grandmother as she saved me from a fatal accident ! The sudden pull at my arms jerked me back to the present when I found myself clasping the fingers of the same person ! I looked up to see the same colorless face again , but this time due to prolonged illness. Her eyes were shut tight , but there was a faint smile on her lips. Gently I stroked her snow white hair while tears filled my eyes . My darling grand mom ‘s voice echoed in my ears . Those nights when the entire neighborhood plunged into darkness due to power cuts, we huddled around her in the light of the lamp to get mesmerized by her stories . She inculcated values like honesty, kindness, forgiveness so intricately through her stories. Those magical nights haunt me time and again . “ Time to go miss, the visiting hours are over ,” the nurse chirped in. With a sigh I planted a light kiss on my grand mom’s forehead and wheeled my chair out of the room.
