“Autograph please!,” an expectant voice squeaked in delight as Rashmi looked up at the bright young face leading a long queue at the book store. It was the launch of her career as an author, a dream that finally came true !
The bookstore looked resplendent with stacks of her book “The Autograph” gleaming in all their glory under the yellow lights. The air was abuzz with a flurry of activities when suddenly the lights went off and a commotion was heard.
“ The manuscript lacks magic, not intriguing enough!” a voice bellowed into her ears and it grew louder with each second till it became unbearable! Some where the clock was ticking away signaling that precious time was slipping like grains of sand through her shivering fingers!
Rashmi felt as if she was being swallowed into a bottomless black pit when suddenly she felt a jerk! She was sitting on the floor in front of her writing table with the toppled chair staring sadly at her.
The birds were chirping at her window sill signaling the start of a new day. She gathered herself and collected the finished manuscript, her maiden book” The Autograph”.
9:30 am , she had exactly 15 minutes to get ready for the meeting with the 10th publisher.
9 rejections.
Her book will see daylight!
Determined she broke into a sprint.
